The Ritual
Purpose Matters
Be thoughtful about when, and with whom you choose to share this with. Is there someone you want to know better? Someone you want to grow closer to? Consider those people in your life who matter and open an invitation to bring them into this experience with you.
Be Present
Sharing this elixir should be the only thing you need to do. A no-device, present experience is a rarified thing in this day and age. Together with your participant(s), agree to be fully together at this time. Make a connection. Notice your breathing. Be here. Together.
Set Intentions
Before you begin, take a moment to consider what you want out of this experience. If you feel comfortable sharing it, do so. If not, that's okay too. The point is to be aware of your intention and embrace the idea that even if it doesn't fully realize in the time you spend together, your efforts are never truly in vain.
An Exercise
Being the verbal, visual creatures that we are, we rarely slow our personal interactions down to a speed where deeper, heart-centered connection is the primary input. Together with your partner(s), this is an opportunity to go deeper.
Sitting at a comfortable distance, begin by making direct eye contact. If it's hard to stay focused, choose to gaze into their left eye. Breathe. Let the jitters settle. You may feel uncomfortable. Some people even get the giggles. Work through that. It's your body's reaction to doing something new. After that passes, you'll find a relaxed, emotional state of meditation in your interlocking gaze. Some people sense emotions from the other person. Others have been known to see their faces change or to have a little burst of awareness for the other person in a way they never had before.
Use this time to connect deeply. Give this practice at least 7 minutes before ending it. After you're done, share to whatever extent you're comfortable, what you encountered.
Ground Yourself
After your time together is coming to a close, be mindful about closing the space you've opened together. Be grateful to each other for sharing in this work, and in your own way, purposefully bring the experience to a close for yourselves and the space you're in.
